6 Action Steps that will Crystallize Your Positive Thinking

Action #1-Acknowledge how you are feeling.

What do you notice about who is the focus in action step one? It’s you, isn’t it? To begin, look inward. Think about how you are feeling and what you want. Be self-centered for a minute. How are you feeling? Frustrated? Tired? Overwhelmed? Excited? Optimistic? Feelings aren’t necessarily good or bad they are just reality.

Shakespeare said, “To thine own self be true.” It’s human nature to do this sometimes. It’s also honest to acknowledge that you are doing it. Quite frankly superstars have more integrity than others. Why? They set big goals and they think about how they can get there. They become introspective to analyze their behavior and attitude. This mental time becomes their launching pad to do what they have to do to win even if they don’t feel like it at the moment. They learn to remind themselves of their goals, personal commitment and the payoff for acting with better intentions now. […]

Achieving a Winning Attitude

My Quest, Win

It takes a winning attitude to achieve a winning performance. Are you up to the task?

The parable of the contented frog illustrates the obstacles we face in winning. If you boil a pot of water and drop a frog in it, guess what happens? The frog quickly jumps out. However, if you put a frog in a pot of cool water and then slowly heat the pot up, guess what happens? The frog boils to death!

How often do people become contended where they are at or with what they are doing? To win we must be willing to change. To win we must be willing to look bad by trying new approaches or ideas to look even better.

The DNA of a New Species of Leaders

Business, if not world leadership, is at a precipice. Will the old guard continue to dominate in their greedy, selfish, unethical manner? Or, will employee and customers alike become even more restless, disengaged and maybe revolutionary in thought or action, and demand a wholesale leadership change?

A new species of leaders is arising. In nature, geneticists call this sympatric speciation. The professional DNA of these leaders is unique. It’s not about profit, promotion or political gain. It’s about the need, and selfless service to […]

The New Science of Goal Setting and Achieving

WCW, NewScienceofGoalsetting3

Neuroscientists say the human brain has 100 billion neurons. 20,000 or so carry Dopamine. It is a neurotransmitter that makes us human and has been called the “motivation molecule.” This is crucial to understanding goal setting and achieving. Dopamine controls our brains communication and keeps us motivated. Dopamine activation provides us drive, focus, and concentration. It also provides pleasurable feelings, accomplishment, planning and the joys of life. It is one of the keys to our goal success.

Discoveries in goal setting science validate how to avoid the pitfalls and possible detrimental effects of goal setting. Likewise, how to tap the new science of goal achieving.

The Hazards of Goal Setting

WCW, goalsL.A. King and C.M.Burton state in their paper, The Hazards of Goal Pursuit for the American Psychological Association, that there are difficulties with goal setting.  If people are not ready, lack training, are non-committal, goals conflict or if the goals are too big. So, goal setting often has a negative impact on people’s emotions and performance.

4 Goal Power Questions That Can Change Your Life This Year!

WCW, Goals7

One year is completing, I hope you finish it well. Another year is beginning, why not make it your best year ever?Four powerful goal setting questions and how you answer them, will determine your success in life. It all begins with a story.

There’s a young boy who, in sixth grade, had a difficult time in school. He figured that once he got to junior high, life would be easier. Then in junior high, he was only disappointed by the way things didn’t go as he had expected they would; his voice changed and he received poor grades. That was when he decided that life must get much better after high school. Then one day, just barely, he graduated high school. After high school, he realized he had to pay his own way, which made life that much harder.

When he married his special someone, life seemed to get a little bit better; but not before long, married life presented a different set of problems. Then children came, along […]

Warning: Pessimism is Hazardous to Your Health

WCW, Pessimism3.1

A 25-year study at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic determined that pessimism is hazardous to your health. To identify optimism and pessimism tendencies, the Mayo Clinic distributed a personality test to hundreds of participants. The results proved that, on average, pessimistic people die 19 percent earlier than optimistic individuals. In other words, optimistic people live 13-14 years longer, suffer less illness, and experience a better quality of life.  I don’t know about you but that matters to me. So I checked out what else relates to this.

My Quest, NoGoalTooHighResearch also shows that optimists and pessimists are startlingly separated when confronted by adversity. Pessimists lack confidence, and envision the worst. This leads to hopelessness. It also creates added worry, fear, anxiety, stress and depression. They often stop trying and are miserable. This kind of world view destroys a person’s attitude, decreases career opportunities and  diminishes life expectancy.

Blind optimism can cause over confidence and carelessness. Yet under pressure optimists tend to continue to perform well. They say things […]

10 Phrases BAD Managers ALWAYS Say-OFTEN

WCW, problems

Bad managers are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately, they lurk in the halls of organizations every where, and stifle employee engagement and effectiveness. Here are ten phrases that they say regularly. (Often sprinkled with their vulgar language) You will always know a bad manager when you hear one, and I’m confident that you have heard a few. Do these sound familiar?

1. “Do what I tell you to to do.”

On a recent business trip a client manager confided in me that he was “stuck”.  His customer experience numbers were okay but he wasn’t a company leader. After observing him in action and reviewing his plans, the answer was obvious to his management team and me. This manager came up with the plans and told people what to do and how to do it. There was little engagement, or appreciation for the effort. The team was disillusioned and results suffered.

2. “We have never done it that way.”
How many times have you heard this? Heaven […]
